Course Details:

This course provides a basic understanding of microbiology and why this is important in decontamination. Covering routes of transmission of infection and methods of prevention.


You will be provided with a short presentation, followed by an assessment. 

If you achieve 80% or more, you will pass the course, and will receive a printable certificate to place in your training records.

If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident. 

Aims:

This course will provide learners with the fundamentals of basic microbiology, staff an understanding of how infections spread and how to prevent them. 

Objectives:

Learners will be able to:

  • Understand the basics of microbiology and why it is important in decontamination.
  • Understand the difference between Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
  • Understand what pathogens can cause disease. 
  • Know how an understanding of the chain of infection can help prevent the transmission of pathogens. 
  • Know how the importance of an effective decontamination process can prevent the transmission of pathogens.
