Course Details:

This course provides an understanding to the labelling of trays and supplementary instruments. Explanation into what information is required and covers the meaning of the symbols shown on the labels.

You will be provided with a short presentation, followed by an assessment. 

If you achieve 80% or more, you will pass the course, and will receive a printable certificate to place in your training records.

If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident.  


To ensure the learner understands the labelling requirements of tray and supplementary instruments. Be able to explain the information required on the labels and the meaning behind the symbols used. 


Learners will be able to;

  • Understand the different labels used in SSDs and why they are used.
  • Understand the information required on the labels.
  • Understand the different symbols used on labels and why they are used. 
  • Explain the different requirements of the labels when it comes to indicators and patient association. 
  • Explain the importance of using labels to identify trays with missing items.

  • The reason for the information and symbols on the labels.
