Course Details:

This course explains the different stages for endoscopy decontamination including manual cleaning and using an EWD.


You will be provided with a short presentation, followed by an assessment. 

If you achieve 80% or more, you will pass the course, and will receive a printable certificate to place in your training records.

If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident. 

Aims:

To outline and provide an understanding of the various stages undertaken in the Decontamination of flexible endoscopes within an Endoscope Decontamination Unit (EDU) and to be aware of how effective decontamination enhances patient safety.

Objectives:

Learners will be able to;

  • Understand the full Endoscope Process Flow.
  • Understand the detail and purpose of the manual cleaning process.
  • Understand the different stages of the EWD processes.
  • Understand the different lumens of the EWD.
  • Understand the different tests completed in the EWD.

Learning Outcomes:

The learner understands:

  • The various stages of manual cleaning of flexible endoscopes.
  • Demonstrate and understanding of the various stages of an EWD cycle.
  • The importance of leak testing.
  • How the lumens and channels are cleaned manually and in the EWD.
  • The function of detergent and disinfectants.
  • The importance of rinsing.
