Course Details:

This course explains the process for the receipt of endoscopes into the department. It will cover the beside clean, visual check and leak test of the decontamination process. Also covers track and trace systems, loan equipment and non-conforming items.


You will be provided with a short presentation, followed by an assessment. 

If you achieve 80% or more, you will pass the course, and will receive a printable certificate to place in your training records.

If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident. 

Aims:

The course will explain the initial processes that that need to be completed as part of the flexible endoscope decontamination processes. Covering the beside clean, visual check and leak test of the decontamination process. 

The course also covers track and trace systems, loan equipment and non-conforming items.

Objectives:

Learners will be able to;

  • Understand an endoscope is and what it is used for.
  • Understanding of the Spaulding classification for medical devices and the decontamination routes required.
  • Understand the Endoscope Decontamination Process Flow.
  • Understand the importance of the ‘Bedside clean’ after the device has been used on a patient. 
  • Understanding the receipt of endoscopes in the EDU. 
  • How to complete a visual check.
  • Understanding the purpose of a leak test.
  • Understand the possible outcomes of a leak test – what to do next.
  • Understand what to do with non-conforming items. 
  • Receiving and setting up of endoscopy loan kit.

  • The difference between ridged & flexible endoscopes.
  • The process flow of endoscopes.
  • The importance of the ‘bedside clean’ after a device has been used.
  • How to complete a visual check.
  • The purpose of the leak test and possible outcomes.

  • How to manage loan kit.
